Rock Climbing in the Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area is one of the countries most beautiful and accessible natural scenic areas. With many rock climbing areas throughout the Gorge, many located just minutes from Portland, it’s never very hard to find a place that will best suit your parties needs and level of experience. Whether you’re by yourself or with a group of your closest friends, we’ve got a great time waiting for you!

Difficulty Level: Intermediate to Advanced  (5.6 – 5.12 YDS)

Travel Time from Portland:  30min

Perfect For:  The intermediate to advanced level climber looking to experience either a full or half day of climbing on long single pitch routes in a lovely riverside setting.  Pitch lengths  average 60- 80ft in height.

Trip Details

Pre-Trip Essentials

All of the necessary technical gear will be provided for your outing.  This includes a climbing harness, climbing shoes, and helmet. Please bring along all clothing and personal items listed below, as safety and comfort are insured through proper preparation.

  • Be sure to eat a full meal before departing for the trip
  • A small backpack to carry small personal items such as sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and snacks.
  • Weather appropriate attire including: + A fleece, wool sweater, or insulating jacket for warmth + Waterproof shell, or any available rain jacket + Sturdy footwear suitable for hiking
  • Clothing that will be comfortable for physical activity
  • Cotton is not recommended


Day of Climb

Guests will meet their guide on the morning of the climb at the predetermined time and location.

Travel times to the Columbia River Gorge climbing areas vary from 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes depending on location choice.

Total trip time, including hike in and proper pre-climbing preparations, varies from 5-8 hours and is dependent on group size, ability level, and guest preference.
